English language proficiency is a pre-requisite to study in Canada. Aspiring candidates usually take IELTS to prove their linguistic proficiency. Canadian High Commission has also issued a directive with regard to IELTS score requirement, which is, an overall score of 6.0 bands with a minimum of band 6.0 score in each of the four modules for an undergraduate degree, while for postgraduates, the requirement stands at band 6.0 score in each of the four modules with an overall score of 6.5 bands. All Canadian academic institutions accept IELTS to discern a candidate's ability to read, write, speak and understand English. There are certain colleges and universities that accept PTE too. However, it must be noted that score requirement and acceptability of language tests is subject to change from time to time.
